Night Noodle Markets - Alexandra Gardens, Melbourne

Hear yee, hear yee... Good Food Month is upon Melbourne.

As a food lover and tourist, constant scanning of upcoming events involving meals is a necessity so after reading about the Melbourne Night Noodle Markets  on the Good Food site had to get down there.

Based in the Alexandra Gardens just across the Yarra river from Federation Square, the Night Noodle Market runs from 18th - 30th November 2013 offering a selection of Eastern inspired cuisine. From popular food trucks like Banh Mi Boys to long established restaurants such as Longrain and Chin Chin, 25 stalls have been set up in an Asian style market to sell to the masses each night.

A couple of friends and I visited the market on its second night and the word had definitely got out with queues of couples, families and groups of friends and colleagues all ready for a tasty treat.

Necessary tips for an evening at night noodles:

- Pick up a snack to have in the queue for your restaurant OR
- Pick up a beer or Rekordelig cider for the queue
- The popular restaurants have queues that are around 30 - 45 minutes long, so be prepared to wait (it will be worth it)
- Bring a picnic blanket and a jacket for after sunset
- Bring a large group of friends so that you can all share food and nominate people to queue at different stalls
- Visit the markets early in the week so that if you want a second visit you can fit one in

Our snack choices were pork spring rolls and prawn rice noodle rolls with satay dip from Thanh Phong, fishcakes from Le Bangkok and massuman curry from popular restaurant Chin Chin. The queue for Chin Chin was long, so either jump in it as soon as you arrive or get some snacks before getting in line. The chilli salted popcorn for the queue is also recommended.

A peachy evening for a group of friends or couples on dates, especially when the Melbourne weather is having a good day.

There's also a free downloadable map available from the link below to find your favourite stalls and restaurants:
