A haven for meat lovers, their slogan "low and slow" gives an idea of just how you're getting your meat. Having started working in Leeds again this spring, I was drawn to Red's after Channel 4's Sunday Brunch Chef Simon Rimmer said he was heading their for a meeting and asked for recommendations on Twitter.
With their no booking policy, Red's true is always busy. Lunchtime is slightly easier to get in, but on an evening its recommended getting down early to put your name on their list as there can be a an hour plus wait.
The prices are reasonable from £8.95 for a sandwich and sides, £11.95 for meat loaded nachos or burgers and you can even sample their feasting plates from around £16.95 and up including a whole pig!
Red's also offer a recommended list of drinks to go with your food, we sampled a couple from their cocktail menu. As a rum fan I went for the Red's Ice tea (real Yorkshire tea involved) and the Dark & Creamy float, a combination of rum, ginger beer and scoop of ice cream.
Having been four times now, each time I've tried to sample something different each visit. My choices have consisted of....
The Pulled Pork Sandwich with sweet potato fries
Sweet potato fries simply remind me of my road trip down the west coast of America and have to be ordered when I see them on any menu. The pulled pork was unbelievably tender and moreish with Red's unholy BBQ sauce giving that extra kick!
Reds Classic Bacon Cheeseburger
A homemade steak burger with all the trimmings, jack cheese, streaky bacon and "dirty" sauce. A carb overload if there ever was one with their skin on fries.
Chicken Hoagie Sandwich with BBQ pit beans and skin on fries
BBQ beans with pulled pork?! Yes that's correct, the ultimate side for any sandwich. The chicken hoagie sandwich was too a delight, I'd struggle to pick between the pulled pork and the chicken.
If your mouth isn't watering already, here are a couple of treats from my friends:
The Pit Burger
Think of anything you could slap on a burger, in a glazed bun. Possible too much for me unless I was ravenous but perfect for my man friend.
The Ribs
As long as my arm, with a side of mac and cheese.
A perfect venue for a group of friends, a work lunch or even a relaxed date. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and feels like you could be in a traditional grill house in America.
